| Publication Overview Kenneth Grahame was born in Edinburgh in 1859, but went to live with his grandmother in Berkshire after his mother's death. He went to school in Oxford but was not allowed to attend university and instead took a job at the Bank of England. The Wind in the Willows grew out of the stories he told his young son, and although the book was rejected several times, its fame grew rapidly after publication. Grahame published little else of substance, becoming something of a recluse later in his life. |
