| Publication Overview The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund was founded by Dian Fossey in 1978 to preserve and protect the world's last surviving mountain gorillas. Originally named "The Digit Fund" in memory of Dian’s favorite gorilla, the Fund was renamed in 1992 to underscore its commitment to carrying on the gorilla protection and research programs established by Dian and to promoting her ideals and vision.
